December 2007 164Whew, What a Year
Wow, as I look back at the last 12 months, we have come so far.  Just look at Cooper's accomplishments and what the Lord has done in his life:
  • Eats all food by mouth, no feeding tube and we are working on table food
  • Sitting up on his own
  • Rolling all over the floor to get what he wants and beginning to crawl
  • Usually answers to his name
  • Babbling - he says "dada" all the time
  • Awake and quite involved in his surroundings (he is trying to help me type)
  • No heart surgery
  • Such a delight
We celebrated Cooper's 1st birthday on January 24.  He thoroughly enjoyed his cupcake as you can see in the above picture.  He had blue icing all over his face and on the back of his head.  The cupcake on the other hand was a little more cause for concern, he wasn't quite sure what to do with it.  I do think Drew enjoyed the party more than Cooper as he got to help blow out candles and open presents.

We had another visit with the cardiologist and continue to see God perform a miracle.  We've gone from "this hole is so large we will have to do surgery by the time he is six months" to "the good news we probably won't have to do surgery".  Also, we've been able to take him off of one of his heart medications and he should come off the other one at his next visit in August.  We are so excited about what the Lord has done in his little body.

Cooper had some minor surgery in February.  After ear infections that just wouldn't go away, we took Cooper to see an ENT and decided to have tubes put in his ears and to remove his adenoids.  After the doctor performed the surgery, he came and told us that Cooper had so much fluid in his ears, he filled two vials.  He said we'd probably notice an immediate improvement in Cooper's hearing.  He definitely seems to be hearing more sounds and having to get used to his very loud older brother.  We also had a small abdominal hernia repaired and Cooper was rolling around and scooting all over that night.  What surgery?

Cooper continues to have weekly physical and speech therapies and we will soon be adding occupational therapy.  He is making such advances and our family is so blessed by him.  We can't wait to see what the next 12 months bring.

As always, we appreciate your interest in Cooper and your continued prayers for him!
