coopsmile  Cooper's BEST News Yet!! and Cautious Optimism

Aside from the words, "you're going home today", the best words we've heard since Cooper's birth are, "The hole is closing . . . I'd say its closed about 40% . . . if he continues like this, he may be able to avoid surgery, but don't hold me to that" -- Dr. Joshi, cardiologist

What an incredible answer to prayer we received today! When Dr. Joshi first spoke to us of Cooper's heart defect, he told us VSD's can close on their own but he was not optimistic that Cooper's would due to the size of the hole. Let me give you the perspective we got today: Cooper's fist, which I just measured is 1 1/2 x 1 inch (think of a large walnut or prune) is approximately the same size as his heart and has a hole that was originally larger than a dime. Dr. Joshi admitted that he was surprised it had closed as much as it had due to the size of the hole. He didn't have the exact measurements in front of him nor did he have the measurements from the last ECHO in front of him but he did think the hole had closed about 40% in the last 4 weeks, he'll know more when he really sits down to study the ECHO.

Our next cardiology appointment will be in 4 weeks, May 16 and I am praying that the hole will have closed another 40% by then. We covet your prayers for continual tissue growth and closing of the hole. We
are "cautiously optimistic" that this tissue growth will continue and
our precious little one will indeed be able to avoid open-heart surgery (we did inquire as to the Cardioseal which can correct certain heart defects without open-heart surgery and Cooper is not a candidate because of the location of his hole -- too near important valves that could be damaged during the process).

We know this is the powerful hand of the Healer and that he is performing a miracle in our little boy's life. What an encouragement to see God hearing our prayers and those of our friends and family and answering them. Our little Cooper's body is already testifying to the greatness of our loving Father.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you who have and continue to diligently pray for him and his health, I truly believe this progress is the result of your faith and intercession.  I am already impatiently awaiting the next ECHO and hope for even better news next month.

Other news:
-- We did not get the "Mic-Key" button Monday.  Apparently, the doctor and I did not communicate well.  Dr. Eubanks would like for Cooper to be a full 2 months out from having the original g-tube placed before replacing it with the button.   We are currently in week 6 so we return in 2 weeks to be measured for the button and then will return a few days later to actually have the tube replaced with the button.

-- As of this morning, Cooper weighs 7 lbs, 10 oz and is 19 inches long, all or our doctors are encouraged by this weight gain and the fat he is gaining on his face, arms and legs.  Dr. Joshi said it will just be a little while longer before we can cut out his middle of the night feeding -- can't wait for that!!

-- Pediatrician appointment tomorrow to recieve final RSV vaccine - our sweet nurse hates giving him shots since he is so small.

-- He is slowly developing his head control and is so close to giving us "big ole" grins, we can't wait.
